North Branch Area
Early Childhood Coalition

Brightening the Future
 For our
 Youngest Citizens

Our Vision:

In the North Branch area, every young child will be cherished as a member of a healthy family and a member of the community.  Our children will be engaged and supported in their growth and development, and valued as an important citizen.  Each family will feel connected to the community, knowledgeable about available resources within the community and empowered to access those resources regardless of their economic level.

Goals:
Educate Young Parents

We will participate in activities which foster the education of young parents.  We will support and collaborate with existing programs such as Early Childhood Family Education, Day Care Homes and Centers, Head Start, MOPS, Preschools, and School Readiness in their work in parent education.  We will work with existing community and civic organizations and expand their role as resources to young parents.

Improve Communications for Early Childhood Opportunities

We will create and maintain a web site for families with young children to use for local events and opportunities, parenting information, community resources, links to community organizations and services, etc.

Work to Increase Funding for
 Early Childhood Opportunities

We will communicate with policy makers regarding the needs of young children.  We will increase local investment(s) in young children.  We will initiate grassroots literacy.

Provide Indoor, Drop-In Recreation for Families with Young Children

We will work with the local park and recreation boards and planners to ensure high quality, safe play areas for our youngest children.  We will support the school district Early  Childhood program’s expanded indoor play space.  We will plan monthly “Family Out & About” gatherings for field trips and recreation.

Provide Access For All Preschoolers to Literacy-Based Education

We will provide information on early learning development and ways to improve literacy to our local early childhood community by giving away books and distributing flyers and handouts. We will distribute quality children’s books to families at WIC clinics, medical and dental offices, immunization clinics, and community events. We will create and distribute Book Tubs for local waiting rooms for families to read
together.
