Early Childhood Screening

What is Early Childhood Screening?

Minnesota state law reuires all children to participate in an Early Childhood Screening before entering kindergarten. ECS is a check of a child's vision, hearing, height & weight, health history, immunizations, speech & language, general development, and motor skills.

Shouldn't I wait until my child is five to have them screened so they do better on the test?

NO! The ideal age to participate in screening is 3 yrs 10 months. Screening is used to identify children who may have difficulty before they enter kindergarten. Through this process, parents gain information about their child's health and overall development. Resources that help children grow are available. Screening is NOT a test for kindergarten.

How do I schedule a screening appointment?

If you are not contacted within 2 months after your child turns four, please call 651-674-1050 to schedule a screening appointment. If you are new in the district or have a new baby, please call to make sure all of your children are included in teh census and receive timely invitations to important school milestones like screening.

For more information, please call Linda at 651-674-1050.

Upcoming Screening Dates:
